GOLF COURSES IN NORTHERN IRELAND

Portstewart Golf Club

In the lovely coastal town of Portstewart just a few miles on the road from Royal Portrush lies three fantastic Golf Courses. It is proud to offer 54 holes with The Strand Course being the most affluent in terms of both quality of the game and the scenery. The course has towering sand dunes with views at every turn of the Donegal Hills, Mussenden Temple, the Atlantic Ocean and the River Bann. The clubhouse has a lovely restaurant and a well-stocked pro shop.

Royal Portrush

Royal Portrush was founded in 1888, the legendary club has two championship courses – the well-established Dunluce Course and the slightly smaller Valley Course. Both command impressive views across the North Atlantic, on clear days Scotland and Donegal are clearly visible. The golf is even more impressive than the view. The only club in Ireland to have hosted The Open Championship, Royal Portrush cannot be missed. Home of The 148th British Open. The course record is held by Rory Mcilroy.

Ballycastle Golf Club

Founded in 1890, Ballycastle Golf Course is a stone throw from the sea on a spectacular stretch of golfing coastline. The course is one of the most scenic in Northern Ireland and has a multitude of personalities from tame parkland holes to wild links offering flat and low lying holes and a back nine that challenges the world’s best whilst having a breath taking view of Ballycastle town, Fair Head, Rathlin Island and on a clear day the Mull of Kintyre.

Castlerock Golf Club

Like all the great courses in Northern Ireland Castlerock boasts incredible views down the coastline but proves a test compared to traditional links golf. The club was formed in 1901 and boasts two golf courses. Firstly, the Mussenden Course which is an 18-hole championship course and rated in the top five course in Ireland. The course was designed by the world famous golfing icons Ben Sayers and Harry Colt.

Galgorm Castle Golf Club

One of Northern Ireland’s finest parklands, the championship layout is nestled in the heart of the historic Galgorm estate. Consistently rated as one of the best championship courses in the leading industry golf publication rankings such as the Irish Golfer Magazine. Galgorm Castle is also a former Parkland Course of the Year winner at the annual IGTOA awards (Irish Golf Tour Operator Association).

Royal County Down Golf Club

Royal County Down is considered a cult hero of a course among many independent assessors. It has consistently been ranked as one of the world’s top ten best courses and has a wide reputation. It is located in the quaint setting of the Murlough Nature Reserve. The links zig zag back and forth to provide a different vista from virtually every hole with the backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne.
